Four Individuals Qualify For Regional Finals As Part Of Highly Successful Fall Equestrian Campaign

The Mount Ida equestrian team enjoyed a highly successful fall season, as four Mustangs have qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association’s regional finals this spring.  Here is a recap of the six events that the squad participated in during the recently completed first semester:

 

BRANDEIS/NORTHEASTERN (October 14th)

Junior Abby Brand (New Boston, N.H./Goffstown) was first in the intermediate fences and second in the intermediate flat, while junior Brandy Bussiere (Newton, Mass./Bacon Academy) took top honors in the advanced walk trot canter.  Junior Baylee Curley (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) placed second in the walk/trot, while the quintet of juniors Rachel Rappa (Poughquag, N.Y./Arlington) and Alison Cox (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), sophomore Erica McCormick (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) and freshmen Julie Creney (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and Kamori Porter-Jacques (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) each registered respective fifth place performances in the advanced walk trot canter, walk/trot, beginner walk trot canter, novice flat and walk/trot.

 

STONEHILL/BOSTON UNIVERSITY (November 4th)

Curley took top honors in the walk/trot, while Bussiere was second in the advanced walk trot canter and qualified for the regional finals.  Brand, McCormick and freshman Haley Poitras (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) posted respective fourth place finishes in the intermediate flat and beginner walk trot canter, while Rappa and junior Kiersten Bazdanes (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) placed fifth in the advanced walk trot canter.  Freshman Kelsey Wallace (Hamilton, N.J./Allentown) added a sixth place finish in the novice flat.

 

BENTLEY (November 5th)

Rappa qualified for the regional finals with a first place performance in the advanced walk trot canter, while Bazdanes and Poitras recorded second place finishes in the advanced walk trot canter and beginner walk trot canter, respectively.  Brand was second in the intermediate flat and fifth in the intermediate fences, while Bussiere recorded a fourth place performance in the novice flat.  Curley and Wallace were fifth in the walk/trot and novice flat.

 

MOUNT IDA (November 11th)

McCormick and freshman Katherine Amaral (Bourne, Mass./Upper Cape Tech) posted first place finishes in the beginner walk trot canter and novice flat, while, Bazdanes, Curley and Poitras added respective second place performances in the advanced walk trot canter, walk/trot and beginner walk trot canter.  Brand was second in the intermediate fences and fourth in the intermediate flat, while Porter-Jacques recorded a third place finish in the walk/trot.  Wallace was third in the novice fences and fifth in the novice flat, while Rappa and Curley added fifth and sixth place performances in the advanced walk trot canter and novice flat, respectively.

 

BOSTON COLLEGE/WELLESLEY (November 12th)

Curley captured the top spot in the walk/trot, while Brand and Bazdanes qualified for the regional finals with respective second and third place finishes in the intermediate fences and advanced walk trot canter.  Wallace was third in the novice flat and sixth in the novice fences on the day, while Brand, Amaral and Porter-Jacques notched fourth place performances in the intermediate flat, novice flat and walk/trot.  McCormick and Poitras each posted fifth place finishes in the beginner walk trot canter.

 

TUFTS/WHEATON (November 19th)

Poitras captured first place honors in the beginner walk trot canter, while Brand and Porter-Jacques recorded second place finishes in the intermediate flat and walk/trot.  Rappa was third in the advanced walk trot canter, while Bussiere and Amaral added respective fourth and fifth place performances in the novice flat.

 

Mount Ida resumes its 2017-18 schedule on Sunday, March 25th at Worcester State.
