Four members of the Mount Ida football team were recognized for their efforts in the classroom by being name to the 2017 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference All-Academic Team that was released earlier today by the league office.
Senior Corey Staub (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick), junior Andrew Light (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit) and sophomores Michael Pina (Brockton, Mass./Xaverian) and Ryan Gries (Northford, Conn./North Branford) represented Head Coach Mike Landers’ Mustangs on this year’s squad, which was comprised of 53 student-athletes from all eight ECFC member institutions. Light earned the accolade for a second straight campaign.
To be eligible for selection to the ECFC All-Academic team, student-athletes must be of sophomore standing academically, have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher in the 2017 fall semester and participated for two years on their squads.
“All four of these young men have worked hard to achieve success both on and off the field, and I want to congratulate them on earning this well-deserved recognition for their performance in the classroom,” Landers, who completed his ninth season at Mount Ida this fall. “They continue to set a positive example for all of their teammates to emulate, and their leadership extends well past the football field.”
