NEWTON, Mass. --  A trio of senior standouts lead 13 members of the Mount Ida football team who were named today to the 2017 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference all-conference squad in a vote of the league’s coaches.

Seniors Nick Hewitt (Killingly, Conn./Killingly), Vincent Tucker (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) and Michael Obianigwe (Roslindale, Mass./West Roxbury) earned first team all-ECFC accolades at their respective wide receiver, offensive line and defensive line positions for the Mustangs.  Hewitt hauled in 47 receptions for 532 yards and three touchdowns on the season, while Tucker led a unit that paved the way for nearly 3,000 yards of total offense.  Obianigwe recorded 58 total tackles, including 26 solo stops and 9 ½ for losses of 18 yards, on the defensive line for Mount Ida, as he also recorded a sack, forced fumble and pass break-up.

Seniors Josh David (Sandown, N.H./Timberlane Regional) and Travis O’Brien (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth), junior DeSean Hart (Mays Landing, N.J./Holy Spirit), sophomore Dwayne Hunter-Parker (Waterbury, Conn./Hyde) and freshman De’Andre Goldson-Fisher (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) were all named to the second-team all-ECFC squad for their respective performances this fall.  David led the Mustangs with 97 total tackles, including 61 solo and 14 ½ for losses of 38 yards, from his linebacking position, while O’Brien amassed nearly 200 all-purpose yards from the fullback spot while scoring a pair of touchdowns.  Hart ranked second on the team with 71 total tackles (40 solo) in the defensive backfield, as he recovered three fumbles, recorded a pair of interceptions and scored three defensive touchdowns on the season, while Hunter-Parker also shined in the defensive backfield with 32 total tackles (23 solo) as well as three pass break-ups.  Goldson-Fisher rushed for 386 yards (5.5 yards per carry) and scored five touchdowns out of the backfield for Mount Ida, and he also chipped in with 21 total stops on defense.

Hunter-Parker is also one of six Mustangs to earn honorable mention all-ECFC accolades, as he recorded 290 kickoff yards as a return specialist on 10 attempts.  Seniors Chris Stafford (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick), Oliver Sylvestre (Warwick, R.I./Warwick Veterans) and Chris Medeiros (Pelham, N.H./Pelham), along with junior Charles Wade (Monroe, Conn./Saint Joseph) and freshman Oscar Lopez (Revere, Mass./Revere), also represented Mount Ida on the honorable mention squad, as Stafford and Sylvestre were mainstays on the offensive line once again this fall.  Medeiros recorded 30 total tackles, including 19 solo and 8 ½ for losses of 18 yards, and returned an interception 28 yards for a pick-six, while Wade tied for the league lead in sacks with eight and posted 36 tackles overall (27 solo and 11 for losses).  Lopez hauled in 27 receptions for 361 yards and three touchdowns in his collegiate debut at wide receiver in 2017.

Mount Ida posted four overall victories under 10th-year Head Coach Mike Landers this fall, including three in ECFC play.  The Mustangs were the only team in New England to face three squads that earned spots in this weekend’s NCAA Division III championships:  Husson, Springfield and Plymouth State.
