The start of the 2017-18 Mount Ida men’s basketball season is less than a week away, and as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign, first year Head Coach Brian Cerone has named seniors Jayson Clark and Kevin Conner as the Mustangs’ co-captains for the winter ahead.
Clark, a native of Austin, Texas and a graduate of Del Valle High School, earned the nod as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year last season and also claimed third team all-league honors, as he averaged 10.3 points per game and led the league in assists (5.1) while ranking second in steals (2.2) per outing in the backcourt. Conner, a native of Mansfield, Mass. and a graduate of Mansfield High School, started all 22 of his appearances at the forward spot in Mustang City, averaging 8.5 points and three rebounds per game along the way.
Cerone, a former standout at Wheaton, describes his captains as “passionate and driven about not only the game, but about their teammates. They will make everyone work hard to get better every day on and off the court, and they will represent our program and the Mount Ida community proudly.”
The Mustangs begin the 2017-18 season on Friday, November 17th when Mount Ida heads to Norton, Mass. to take on Sage in opening round play of the 2017 Wheaton Tip-Off Tournament at 5:30 pm EST.
