MANSFIELD, Conn. -- Eastern Connecticut State scored six times in the final period to open up their lead and held Mount Ida College off the board over the final 27:36 to hand the Mustangs a 13-6 non-conference defeat in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
Eastern (3-5), which held a 55-22 advantage in shots, tied the match 6-6 with 5:06 left in the third quarter on a goal by Shawn Tierney -- who had missed the last two matches with injury -- and went ahead for good four minutes later on a strike by Matthew Rougeot four minutes later.Mount Ida junior goalie Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) stopped 19 shots, 11 in the second half when Eastern unloaded 32 shots. The Warriors scored six goals on 17 fourth-quarter shots.
Mount Ida has a week off to prepare for their rivals Lasell College, who come to Alumni Field for their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
