Eastern Breaks Away from Mustangs in Non-League Tilt
MANSFIELD, Conn. -- Eastern Connecticut State scored six times in the final period to open up their lead and held Mount Ida College off the board over the final 27:36 to hand the Mustangs a 13-6 non-conference defeat in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

Eastern (3-5), which held a 55-22 advantage in shots, tied the match 6-6 with 5:06 left in the third quarter on a goal by Shawn Tierney -- who had missed the last two matches with injury -- and went ahead for good four minutes later on a strike by Matthew Rougeot four minutes later.
Mount Ida (5-3) had moved out to a 6-3 lead with a pair of goals two minutes apart less than three minutes into the second half. Chad Coehlo (Salem, Mass.) scored to open and close the first quarter, and the Mustangs were ahead 4-3 at the break before Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass.) and Peter Hardy (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored to start the third quarter.

Of Eastern's ten straight goals, Rougeot collected three of them and Harrison Uruda chipped in two assists.

Rougeot finished with five goals and Tierney two goals and an assist.

Jesse Schulze won ten of 19 faceoffs for Eastern.

Mount Ida junior goalie Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) stopped 19 shots, 11 in the second half when Eastern unloaded 32 shots. The Warriors scored six goals on 17 fourth-quarter shots.

Mount Ida has a week off to prepare for their rivals Lasell College, who come to Alumni Field for their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
