WINTHROP, Mass. -- Mount Ida College men's lacrosse collected two important Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victories this week, and junior Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) was between the pipes for both of them.
For his efforts, Hayward was named GNAC Corvias Men's Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week, announced on Monday afternoon by the conference office.
Hayward was instrumental in both of Mount Ida's two conference wins, making 34 saves, including 21 stops in an 8-7 win over Norwich. With time running down and the Mustangs up a score, Hayward came up with the crucial final save to preserve the one-goal victory over the Cadets.
For the week, he stopped 34 of 49 shots for a .694 save percentage, also holding Emmanuel College at bay in a 12-8 victory over the three-time defending conference champions.
Hayward leads the GNAC in goals against average (8.31) and is second in the conference with 164 saves and a 61.9 save percentage.
The Mustangs (9-4, 3-1 GNAC) travel to Johnson & Wales tomorrow evening for a 7:00 pm game against the Wildcats.
