BOSTON, Mass. --  Senior Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass.) netted five goals and an assist to become the 20th member of the school’s 100 Point Club as Mount Ida claimed its fourth straight victory with a 15-9 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse triumph over Emmanuel Wednesday evening at Clemente Field.


The visiting Mustangs (5-6, 4-0 GNAC) jumped out to a 3-0 advantage midway through the first quarter before the host Saints (1-9, 1-4 GNAC) closed back to within one on senior Charlie Moran’s (Maitland, Fla.) marker with 1:50 to play in the period, and Mount Ida took control of the contest with five unanswered tallies in the second stanza that included two goals each from Donahue and freshman Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass.) for a 9-3 edge at the break.  Emmanuel crept back to within five on a pair of occasions in the second half, the last coming on junior Matt Katon’s (East Falmouth, Mass.) marker with 4:47 remaining, but the visitors iced their triumph with tallies off the sticks of Donahue and sophomore Dakari Eason (Norwalk, Conn.) in the final four-plus minutes of action to account for the final score.


Eason added a hat trick and two assists in the win for the Mustangs, who received a pair of tallies and three helpers from Alibrandi.  Junior Kyle Ton (Norwich, Conn.) added a pair of markers for Mount Ida, which also received goals from juniors Matt Curran (Abington, Mass.), Adam Lavallee (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Eric Walker (Newington, Conn.).  Junior Shayne Rix (Westwood, Mass.) chipped in with two assists in the victory for the visitors, who received single helpers off the sticks of junior Owen LaPorte (Farmington, Conn.) and freshman Roman Dennis (Lewiston, Maine).


Katon collected four goals and an assist to finish with five points in the setback for Emmanuel, which received two tallies and a helper from freshman Charlie Stutzenberger (Plymouth, Mass.).  Moran added two assists to go with his goal for the Saints, who received a marker and helper from junior Steve Gervasio (Johnston, R.I.), a goal from junior Ben Hartig-Orr (Reading, Vt.) and an assist off the stick of junior Sam Ward (Hampstead, N.H.).


Senior Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) picked up his fifth victory of the season with a 13-save effort in goal for Mount Ida, while senior Austin Rosenberg (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) made 12 stops in the setback for Emmanuel as the Mustangs outshot the Saints by a 49-36 margin overall (28-22 on goal) for the contest.


Mount Ida heads to Northfield, Vt. on Saturday afternoon to take on Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Emmanuel hosts New England College in a non-league clash on Friday evening at Clemente Field that begins at 7:00 p.m.
