FINAL:             NORWICH 7, MOUNT IDA 5

NORTHFIELD, Vt. --  Senior Ian Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lead Norwich to a 7-5 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Mount Ida Saturday afternoon at Sabine Field.

The host Cadets (8-5, 5-1 GNAC) overcame an early 1-0 deficit to take a 4-1 edge late in the second quarter on the strength of two goals each from Kennedy and senior Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Ohio), and after the visiting Mustangs (5-7, 4-1 GNAC) closed back to within two at the break on senior Marcus Donahue’s (Braintree, Mass.) marker, Norwich took control of the match with three unanswered tallies in the third stanza, two of which came off the stick of sophomore Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.).  Mount Ida, which saw its four-match winning streak snapped in the setback, crept back to within four (7-3) on junior Owen LaPorte’s (Farmington, Conn.) goal 1:32 into the fourth quarter, and a pair of man-up markers from freshman Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass.) enabled the visitors to close back to within the final margin in the last 89 seconds of play.

Junior Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) collected an assist in the win for Norwich, while Alibrandi added a helper to go with his two goals in finishing with three points in the setback for Mount Ida, whose first tally came off the stick of sophomore Dakari Eason (Norwalk, Conn.).  Junior Ian Kriger (Burlington, Mass.) earned the triumph in net for the Cadets with an 11-save effort, while senior Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) made 16 stops in the setback for the Mustangs as Norwich outshot Mount Ida by a 51-27 margin overall (23-16 on goal) and held a 10-6 edge in face-offs for the contest.  The result creates a four-way tie in the loss column atop the GNAC standings, as Norwich and Rivier both have 5-1 league marks while Mount Ida and Lasell stand a half game back at 4-1 in conference action.

Mount Ida hosts Regis in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference outing on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Norwich heads to Nashua, N.H. on Wednesday evening to take on Rivier in a GNAC clash that begins at 7:00 p.m.
