MIDDLETOWN, R.I. --  Senior Andrew Fera (Cranston, R.I.) netted four goals and an assist for five points to lead Salve Regina to a 12-9 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Mount Ida Tuesday afternoon at Gaudet Field.

Fera helped stake the host Seahawks (3-2) to a 4-1 first quarter advantage, but the visiting Mustangs (0-2) responded with four unanswered tallies in a 10-minute stretch to take a 5-4 lead on a pair of tallies from junior Owen LaPorte (Farmington, Conn.) that came 61 seconds apart.  Salve Regina netted the final three markers of the half to grab a 7-5 edge at the break, and the Seahawks capped a six-goal run with three more tallies in the first 6:35 after intermission to extend that margin to five on Fera’s man-up marker with 8:25 remaining in the third stanza.

A man-down conversion by junior Kyle Ton (Norwich, Conn.) sparked a three-goal Mount Ida response that sliced the visitors’ deficit to two with 1:28 to play in the third quarter, but Fera extended the hosts’ advantage back to three with eight seconds remaining in the frame.  Ton again cut Mount Ida’s deficit to a pair with a goal 2:03 into the fourth stanza, but senior Alex Makoske (Shoreham, N.Y.) provided some insurance for the Seahawks with a tally that came with 9:37 remaining in the match, and that would prove to be the goal of the contest for either squad.

Freshman Pat Leary (Wakefield, Mass.) added a pair of goals and two assists in the win for Salve Regina, which received two tallies and a helper from Alex Makoske along with a pair of markers from sophomore Ethan Robson (Lincoln, R.I.).  Senior Zach Makoske (Shoreham, N.Y.) collected a goal and three assists for the Seahawks, who received a marker from freshman Ryan Heeter (Wading River, N.Y.) as well as two assists off the stick of sophomore Joe Madden (East Greenwich, R.I.).

LaPorte finished with a hat trick in the setback for Mount Ida, which received a pair of tallies and an assist from freshman Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass.) along with two goals from Ton.  Senior Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore Dakari Eason (Norwalk, Conn.) each notched a marker and a helper for the Mustangs, who also received an assist off the stick of junior Adam Lavallee (Pawtucket, R.I.).

Senior Matt D’Amore (Duxbury, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Salve Regina with a seven-save effort, while senior Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) made 22 stops in net for Mount Ida, including 15 in the first half alone.  The Seahawks outshot the Mustangs by a 47-22 margin overall (34-16 on goal), but the visitors held a 13-10 edge in face-off wins for the contest.

Mount Ida heads to Union, N.J. on Friday evening to take on Kean in a non-league clash that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Salve Regina hosts Johnson & Wales in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon at Gaudet Field beginning at 5:00 p.m.
