BOSTON, Mass. -- The winningest season in Mount Ida College men's volleyball history came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss at Wentworth Institute in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Tansey Gymnasium.
Mount Ida ends the year with a 13-18 record (2-12 GNAC), and eclipsed the previous mark of 10 wins, set in 2010.
Nationally ranked Wentworth handled Mount Ida by scores of 25-6, 25-10, and 25-20 to improve to 24-6 overall and 13-1 in the GNAC.
Kevin Vanderhorst (Lawrence, Mass.), Joe Kwiatkowski (Londonderry, N.H.), Tyler Shinkle (W. Deptford, N.J.) and Brett Southworth (Orange, Conn.) all posted four kills apiece in the defeat, while Nelson Leadbetter (Athol, Mass.) had a team-high five digs.
The Leopards hit over .500 in each of the first two sets and ended the game with a .443 hitting percentage and eleven service aces.
Ryan Engel (Floral Park, N.Y.) paced Wentworth with eight kills, while Scott Skarzynski (Webster, N.Y.) and Brian Drouse (Dallas, Pa.) turned in seven-kill performances each.
The Leopards also host #9 NYU this afternoon before heading into the GNAC tournament next week.
