NEWTON, Mass. --  The Mount Ida men’s volleyball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match decision to host Lasell and Johnson & Wales by identical 3-0 finals in contests played Saturday afternoon at the Athletic Center.

 

Junior Nathan Gallo (North Providence, R.I.) notched seven kills and four set assists in Lasell’s (4-15, 2-3 GNAC) 25-13, 25-17, 25-15 opening match triumph over the Mustangs (9-13, 0-6), while freshman Aaron Waitekus (Norwood, Mass.) added four kills and four digs for the Lasers.  Freshman Dillon DeSouza (Enfield, Conn.) chipped in with four kills as part of a balanced attack or the hosts, who received 29 set assists, seven digs and three kills from junior Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.).

 

Junior Brett Southworth (Orange, Conn.) registered a match-high eight kills and five digs in the opening setback for Mount Ida, which received five kills, six set assists and three digs from sophomore Kevin Vanderhorst (Lawrence, Mass.).  Sophomore Andre Foster (Davis, Calif.) added four kills, two digs and pair of service aces for the Mustangs, who received 11 set assists from sophomore Kevin Keohane (Jefferson, N.J.), six digs from junior Ethan Souza (Acushnet, Mass.) and two kills from junior Nate Gyampo (Providence, R.I.).

 

Senior Kanila Chang (Orlando, Fla.) recorded seven kills, six digs and pair of set assists in Johnson & Wales’ (9-12, 2-3 GNAC) 25-13, 25-17, 25-12 middle match triumph, as the Wildcats received four kills from sophomore Michael Foglia (Wayne, N.J.) as part of a balanced attack.  Sophomore Endel Sanchez (East Hartford, Conn.) added 19 set assists, four digs and three kills for Johnson & Wales, which received 12 digs from junior Alex Seda (San Juan, P.R.).

 

Southworth added five kills and two digs in the second match setback for Mount Ida, which received four kills and seven digs from freshman Tyler Dorfman (West Hartford, Conn.).  Junior Tyler Shinkle (West Deptford, N.J.) notched a pair of kills and three digs for the Mustangs, who received 10 set assists from Keohane, six digs from Gyampo, five digs from Souza and four digs from freshman Mason Leonard (Langdon, N.H.).

 

Mount Ida hosts Pine Manor in a non-league outing on Monday evening at the Athletic Center beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Lasell entertains Emmanuel in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash on Tuesday evening at the Athletic Center that begins at 7:00 p.m.  Johnson & Wales travels to Cambridge, Mass. on Wednesday evening to square off with MIT in a non-league match beginning at 6:00 p.m.
