MOUNT IDA SOFTBALL 2010 CO-CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED

Mount Ida College softball players Erin Dufficy '12 (Shelton, CT/Shelton) and Erica Belliveau '12 (Tewksbury, MA/Tewksbury) have been named co-captains for the 2010 season by head coach Katie Zuman.

"The team this year is extremely young and despite their age, Erin and Erica have shown they possess the maturity on and off the field to be effective leaders," Zuman said. "They have also been instrumental in organizing the team and have set a good tone leading into the season through their passion and dedication."

Dufficy, a first baseman, is one of the most complete defensive players for the Mustangs. As a freshman, she started all thirty-four games and led the team in sacrifices. She is also well respected for her work ethic and style of play. Additionally, Dufficy is a criminal justice major and a two-time Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative.

Belliveau, a catcher with experience at shortstop, led the team in most offensive categories in 2009. She led the Mustangs with a .392 batting average and a .464 on base percentage. Belliveau also contributed team highs with 23 runs, 38 hits, 10 doubles, and 12 walks, while starting in every game. On the defensive side, as a first year catcher, she led the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in pick-offs.

Mount Ida begins the 2010 campaign March 21st at home with a doubleheader against Suffolk starting at noon.
