GAME #1 FINAL:          EMMANUEL 8, MOUNT IDA 0 (5 INNINGS)

GAME #2 FINAL:          EMMANUEL 11, MOUNT IDA 3 (5 INNINGS)

BOSTON, Mass. --  Junior Ashley Skey (Brookline, N.H.) and freshman Meaghan Price (Corning, N.Y.) each had four hits and four RBI to lead Emmanuel to a sweep of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Mount Ida by scores of 8-0 in the opener and 11-3 in the nightcap in games played Thursday evening at Clemente Field.

The host Saints (18-15, 11-9 GNAC) took a 1-0 second inning lead in the opener on sophomore Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda’s (South Boston, Mass.) RBI double, and Emmanuel extended that margin to 3-0 in the third on a run-scoring single by junior Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) and an RBI double off the bat of Skey.  The hosts iced their triumph with a five-run fifth inning that saw Burgos plate a pair with her fifth homer of the spring to go with a run-scoring single, as the Saints capped the frame by taking an advantage of an error as well as RBI singles from Sheehan and Price.

Sheehan collected three of Emmanuel’s 11 hits in the opening win, as Burgos helped her own cause with three hits at the plate while tossing a complete-game one-hitter and fanning three to improve to 9-5 on the season for the Saints.  Junior Kelsey Weston (Hampstead, N.H.) rapped out the lone safety of the lid-lifter for the visiting Mustangs (14-21, 8-12 GNAC), as freshman Madeleine Smith (San Diego, Calif.) struck out three in going the distance inside the circle.

Mount Ida grabbed the early advantage in its first at-bat of the nightcap on senior Hayley Microulis’s (Pawtucket, R.I.) RBI single, but Emmanuel responded with four runs in the bottom of the first on Skey’s two-run single that was followed by Price’s two-run double.  The Mustangs got those tallies back in the third on a fielder’s choice groundout from freshman Savannah Neilan (Somerset, Mass.) and freshman Jill Skalski’s (Cranford, N.J.) RBI double, but the Saints broke things open in the bottom of the frame on a two-run double by junior Ashley Esakoff (Ventura, Calif.), Price’s RBI single and a three-run homer off the bat of Ramirez-Tejeda (her fourth of the spring).  Skey closed out the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with her fourth round-tripper of the season, and freshman Mikaela Montemagni (Chicopee, Mass.) took care of the rest on the mound for Emmanuel by scattering five hits and fanning seven to even her record at 2-2 on the year.

Esakoff rapped out three hits as part of a second 11-hit attack for the hosts, who received two hits each from Skey and Price.  Sophomore Alisa Benson (Middletown, R.I.) collected two hits in the nightcap setback for Mount Ida, as freshman Carrigan Costello (Wolcott, Conn.) recorded a strikeout in two-plus innings of action inside the circle for the Mustangs.

Mount Ida travels to Standish, Maine on Friday afternoon to take on Saint Joseph’s (Maine) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Emmanuel hosts Regis in a GNAC twinbill on Friday evening at Clemente Field that begins at 6:00 p.m.
