WINTHROP, Mass. – A record-setting Mount Ida College women's basketball career for senior center Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) received one final accolade from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as Martinez was selected to the Third Team of the 2017 GNAC All-Conference squads, voted on by coaches from across the conference and announced by the GNAC on Monday.
This is the second straight Third Team selectin for Martinez, who last year became the first Mustang to earn an All-Conference nod since 2012-13.
It is a well-deserved recognition from a conference in which Martinez became the all-time leading rebounder this season, finishing her career with 1,208 rebounds, besting the previous mark of 1,114, held by Natalia Perlaza (Albertus Magnus '05).
For the fourth consecutive season, Martinez averaged double-digit rebounds, grabbing 12.1 boards per game, good for second in the conference. She also scored 9.2 points per game, shooting 44.0 percent from the field, and had 54 assists, one shy of her career high from last season.
Within the course of a week this past December, Martinez became the fourth member of the Mount Ida College women's basketball player to score 1,000 points and the first player, male or female, in school history to grab 1,000 rebounds.
She ends her career with 1,094 points, fourth all-time on the Mount Ida scoring list, and also continues to hold the school single-game record with 36 points, scored in her sophomore year against Pine Manor.
A team captain and beloved member of the Mount Ida community, Martinez was also selected as the Mount Ida representative on the 2017 GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
