Four Mustangs Collect Hat Tricks, Ride Past Hawks in Non-Conference Action

LEICESTER, Mass.- For the second consecutive game at least two Mustangs recorded natural hat tricks. Today, four different Mustangs tallied hat tricks to lead Mount Ida to their first win of the season en route to a 17-11 road victory over Becker College.

With the win, Mount Ida improves to 1-1 on the year while Becker drops to 0-3 with either team yet to play a conference game.

Reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) has now scored 12 goals in her first two college games as she collected seven more today to go along with one assist as she totaled 8 points in the contest. Kelly is now the leading goal scorer in the GNAC while also leading the league in total points.

Along with Kelly, Emily McConnell (Dracut, Mass.) scored four goals while fellow Mustangs Briana Barker (Westerly, R.I.) and Nicole Pavao (Peabody, Mass.) each padded three goals apiece in the non-conference affair.

The Mustangs and Hawks went back and forth for the majority of the first half. Becker's Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) put Hawks on the board when she tickled the twine 5:03 into the game for her first goal of the season. Mount Ida tied the game 3:52 later on senior Barker's first maker of the season.

After the both teams tallied goals on free-position shots, reigning NECC Player of the Week Kailee Ruyack (Beacon, N.Y.) gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead when she scored top shelf with her team leading 11th goal of the season.

The Mustangs would then go on a 3-0 run with a pair of goals from Kelly and Barker's second of the game to take a 5-3 advantage. Erika Galdamez (Concord, Calf.) ended the Mustangs run with a goal on a free-position shot.  The Hawks excitement was short lived as Barker completed her hat-trick to push the Mustang advantage to 6-4.

Becker's Victoria Belcher (Seekonk, Mass.) would close out the first half with her fifth goal of the season to bring the Hawks within a goal at the break.

Kelly would take control of the game in the second stanza, scoring two goals just 43 seconds into the half to give Mount Ida an 8-5 lead. After Pavao extended the Mustangs lead with a free-position shot, Ruyack netted a pair of goals to get the Hawks back into the game at 9-7.

The Hawks struggled to find an answer for Kelly as she tallied back-to-back goals to extend the Mount Ida advantage to 11-7. After Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.) cut the Becker deficit to 11-8, Kelly was back at it again with what proved to be the game winner with 10:27 remaining in regulation.

McConnell put the game out of reach when she scored four goals in the final 8:56 of the contest.

Ruyack led the Hawks with four goals while Belcher tallied a hat-trick of her own.

Mount Ida was 5 for 10 on free position shots while the Hawks finished 3 of 9. Mount Ida won 22 draw controls with Kelly winning 13 of those. Becker picked up 24 ground balls with the Mustangs finishing with just 15. 

Mount Ida keeper Jackie Tarsook (Derry, N.H.) earned her first collegiate win after making 13 saves while Becker netminder Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) made nine saves in her debut between the pipes.
