Mustangs Sweep Weekly Awards for Women’s Lacrosse

WINTHROP, Mass. – After the first week of games this season, the Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team swept all three Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias weekly awards, which were announced on Monday by the conference office.

Sophomore Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) was named Player of the Week, sophomore transfer Brooke Scahill (Ledyard, Conn.) earned Rookie of the Week honors, and freshman goalie Jess Henry (Wilbraham, Mass.) was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Week.

Kelly put up 13 points over the first two games for Mount Ida, including a seven goal performance against Wentworth to help the Mustangs to a 2-0 start to the year. She has also grabbed 10 draw control and forced four turnovers in two games so far.

Henry made 14 saves in Mount Ida's home opening 15-5 win over the Leopards. She held Wentworth to 0-for-7 on free position attempts, and had an impressive 73.7 save percentage. She was not forced to make a save in a 20-0 blanking at Newbury, and is now 2-0 on the season between the pipes.

Scahill burst onto the scene with a four-goal performance against Newbury, also winning eight draws and picking up six ground balls. For the week, she had six goals and 10 draws.

Mount Ida, currently in Florida for their Spring Break week, will begin the first of two games in the Sunshine State on Tuesday when they play Rhode Island College at 12:00 pm at the National Training Center.
