Rangers Hand Mustangs First Loss with Big Second Half

CLERMONT, Fla. – Trailing just 5-2 at halftime, Mount Ida College saw Drew University score seven straight goals on their way to handing the Mustangs a 14-3 loss, their first defeat of the year, as Mount Ida finished their play at the National Training Center.

Nicole Pavao (Peabody, Mass.) scored twice for the Mustangs, and Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) had a goal and two assists. Pavao's first goal cut the deficit to just 3-2 with 6:35 to play in the first half, but the Rangers answered twice before the break and then scored four times in the first ten minutes of the second half.

Morgan Mason (Cranford, N.J.) and Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) each scored hat tricks for Drew, while Anna Fiorini (Bethel, Conn.) and Sage Johnson (Timonium, Md.) had two assists apiece, with Johnson also contributing a goal and four caused turnovers.

Mount Ida got eleven saves and six ground balls out of freshman goalie Jessica Henry (Wilbraham, Mass.), but she dropped to 3-1 on the year for Mount Ida, who fell victim to a 12-4 deficit on draw controls and were outshot 39-12.

Drew goalies Gianna Minogue (Sayville, N.Y.), who improved to 4-1 on the season, and Isabella Kudas (Kennebunkport, Maine), combined to make seven saves on ten shots on net.

The Mustangs will look to bounce back on March 15th when they travel to Dean for a 3:00 pm draw.

Drew, now 4-1 on the year, hosts SUNY Canton on Thursday, March 16th at 4:00 pm in Madison.
