Mustangs Shut Down Amcats for GNAC Victory

PAXTON, Mass. – Mount Ida picked up their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout over hosts Anna Maria at AMCAT Field. 

The Mustangs improve to 2-8 (1-4 GNAC) on the season, while the AMCATS (4-6-1, 0-5 GNAC) are still in search of their first conference win. 

Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, N.Y.) gave Mount Ida a lead just 2:32 into the game with her third goal of the season. Legge took a pass from sophomore Maegan Hernberg (Eastford, Conn.), who collected her first points of the season with the assist.

Legge was in on the insurance goal as well, feeding junior Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, R.I.), who scored her team-high sixth goal with a low shot in the 58th minute. 

Legge now has five assists to go with three goals on the season, while Tomaselli continues to lead the team, now with 14 points this year. 

Mustangs goalie Rebecca Beaulieu (Weare, N.H.) made two saves on the day to record her second shutout of the season, and hte Mustangs held the edge in shots on goal (14-2) and corners (5-0). 

The AMCATS were led by goaltender Teresa Ryan (Shrewsbury, Mass.), as the sophomore keeper made 12 saves in the loss.  

Freshmen Julianna Ceccarini (Westfield, Mass.) and Lindsay Phillips (Dartmouth, Mass.) accounted for the two AMCAT shots on goal. 

Mount Ida returns to the confines of Alumni Field for a mid-week game against Saint Joseph's (ME). That game, which will be another GNAC contest, which kick off a 7:00 pm on Wednesday night. 

The AMCATS return to action on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 as they host Norwich in a GNAC match-up.
