DANBURY, Conn. – The Mount Ida College women's volleyball tournament ended their trip to the Western Connecticut State University tournament on a high note, collecting their first victory of the 2014 season with a 3-1 win over Purchase State.
The Mustangs are now 1-2 on the season, after dropping their first match of the day to Brandeis by a 3-0 score.
Senior setter Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament team after capping her weekend with a 35-assist performance in the victory. The Mustangs fell behind in that match, dropping the first set to Purchase 25-22, but battled back to win the next three sets, 25-18, 25-16, and 25-20.
Sarah Gabler led Purchase with six kills and Alex Lally set up 18 points in the loss.
In the day's first match, Brandeis swept the match by scores of 25-14, 25-18, and 25-11. Batakis registered three kills for the Mustangs, and Peixoto tallied nine digs to go with her five assists.
Carly Gutner-Davis dug out an impressive 21 balls in the victory for Brandeis.
Julie Kim had 28 assists to pace the Judges, and Summer Koop and Maddie Engeler led Brandeis with nine kills apiece.
Mount Ida returns home for their first match of the year in Newton on Thursday, September 4th, when they welcome Pine Manor for a 6:00 pm contest.
