SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team is in New York this weekend, competing at a tournament co-hosted by Union College and Sage College. The Mustangs opened Day 1 on Friday evening with a 3-1 win over MCLA before falling in straight sets to the host Union.
Mount Ida 3, MCLA 1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-17)
Freshman Rachael Colombo (Wallkill, N.Y.) led the way with 13 kills and had three of Mount Ida's 13 service aces. Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) also turned in three aces and a double-double with 10 digs, 11 kills and two solo blocks.
Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) paced the offense with 35 assists.
Union 3, Mount Ida 0 (14-25, 14-25, 7-25)
The hosts were too much for Mount Ida, despite another five kills from Colombo. Katherine Eastwood (Amityville, N.Y.) led the team with eight digs, but Mount Ida had a negative hitting percentage in each set, while Union hit .290 for the match and racked up 34 kills to Mount Ida's 14.
Saturday's matches move to Sage College, where the Mustangs (6-4) will play the Gators at 11:00 AM and then close out their trip against Rutgers-Newark at 1:00 PM.
